FT8 and Multi Answering

I had been receiving emails on how I respond to multiple people at the same time while activating FT8 during a POTA. The easy answering is to use a modified copy MSHV. If you trust some random person on the internet I have made my copies available for easy installation on Windows. To use it, just install the main program (Installer link below) and replace the installed exe’s with the ones from the ZIP file.

If you would rather modify your own you can download the source from the main MSHV website and just modify the following two files and follow the instructions to compile.

In src/HvTxW/hvtxw.cpp on line 2827 and 2828 change the following

    qint32 ftf[c_frq]=
        {
            1840,3573,3575,7074,7047,10136,10140,14074,14080,
            18100,18104,21074,21140,24915,24919,28074,28180  //,40680,50313,50318,60074,70154,70159
        };

To the Following

    qint32 ftf[c_frq]=
        {
            // 1840,3573,3575,7074,7047,10136,10140,14074,14080,
            // 18100,18104,21074,21140,24915,24919,28074,28180  //,40680,50313,50318,60074,70154,70159
        };

In src/HvTxW/hvmultianswermodw.cpp on line 1611 change

        {
            if (s_co_type==0)
                SBslots->setRange(1,2);
            else
                SBslots->setRange(1,1);//<- importent eu vhf only 1 slot needed
        }

To the Following

        {
            if (s_co_type==0)
                SBslots->setRange(1,5);
            else
                SBslots->setRange(1,1);//<- importent eu vhf only 1 slot needed
        }

Update

So it’s been a while since I’ve posted something and it’s getting close to a year after I got my license. I still haven’t gotten on the radio much, and it’s probably because the few times I have I feel out of place. So many people have the get off my lawn mentality.

I am still not sure what to do, do I stick with it until I become one of them, or do I do something else?

Packet Radio

So, I recently purchased a SignaLink USB that I can use with my Baofeng radio’s. While I started playing with it, I noticed that finding Windows software is quite difficult.

I may need to install Linux on my laptop or do a live USB to see if I have better luck doing it on there.

Kenwood TM-V71A

After passing my technician test I decided it was time to purchase a mobile radio and put it in my vehicle, after looking around and figuring out a budget I thought the Kenwood TM-V71A would be a really good fit. So far I am really happy with it and have it installed in my car. The only remaining at the time of this post is to make a bracket to hold the head unit.

I am also thinking that about adding a TNC into the Raspberry Pi that I have running in my car and have it act as a APRS digipeater.
